You need insurance, check your home auto insurance before doing anything else as you may be covered for rentals vehicles, however some insurances will cover for rental cars but not vans. If this is the case you can buy insurance from the rental companies.
Check for extra costs and details such as mileage limits, extra costs, adding on drivers, penalties for late return, fuel costs etc.
Before signing the paperwork, take the truck for a test drive. Check the brakes carefully! Do not go for a test drive in a similar truck! Only test drive the truck you are going to rent.
